Expressions of Interest

In conjunction with BrownTrout Publishers Australia, Elastic Design are once again producing a bunch of New Zealand art calendars for 2020. We’re currently looking for artists for the Māori Art of New Zealand calendar. This year the calendar will be a square format.

UPDATE: We previously advertised that the calendar would be a smaller mini format, we’ve just heard from Publishers that its going to be bigger again. Which means more money for the artists! Yay!

All successful artists will be paid NZ$120 per internal image, plus an extra NZ$150 if the artwork is selected for the cover. Artists will also be supplied a couple of samples of the printed calendar, and have access to the publishers wholesale prices to buy bulk calendars (if you wish to sell/gift to family and friends).

Calendars will be sold online and throughout New Zealand at all the usual stationery outlets (Whitcoulls, Warehouse Stationery and Paper Plus, etc). For a full list of NZ stockists, please refer here.

Open to all New Zealanders, however priority is given to Māori artists. Paintings, illustration, carvings and weavings are all accepted.

Your art is high quality, so photographs of them should be too. If the photo is too small or out of focus, or if there are issues with colour, lighting or shadows – then you’re not showing a true representation of your work.

We think the best approach is simply to hire a professional photographer. Obviously, not everyone has the budget or resources to hire a pro, so if you plan to take the photos yourself, be sure to review the following tips before filling out the form.

When filling out the form, you will need to supply the following:

  • High resolution image of your artwork/s (RGB, JPG, at least 3600 px width/height)
  • Artwork title
  • Artist website (Facebook pages (not personal profiles) are also accepted).

Closing date: Friday 29 March 2019, 5 pm AEST (that’s 7 pm NZ time).

We’ll be in touch with all the artists once the final selections have been made.
